Lung Transplant Referral
For some patients, lung disease progresses to a point where transplant evaluation becomes the best path forward. Dr. Abdallah works closely with these patients to determine the right timing for referral and to prepare them for a smooth transition into a transplant program.
What this involves:
Identifying when a patient's disease has advanced to the point that transplant evaluation should be considered
Coordinating and completing the initial diagnostic workup required by transplant centers
Optimizing medical management leading up to referral
Referring patients to the transplant program best suited to their needs and insurance coverage
Continuing to coordinate care alongside the transplant team throughout the evaluation process
Transplant centers we refer to:
Depending on insurance coverage and individual circumstances, Dr. Abdallah refers patients to leading Southern California transplant programs, including:
UC San Diego Health
UCLA Health
Keck Medicine of USC
Cedars-Sinai
What to expect:
Getting to transplant evaluation can feel overwhelming. Dr. Abdallah's goal is to make sure patients arrive at their transplant center appointment with the workup already underway, so the process moves as efficiently as possible — while continuing to manage their care every step of the way.
Your care team will discuss this option with you if your lung function or symptoms indicate it may be appropriate
